We actually use facebook quite a bit - to help facilitate the community for our members and to promote events, keep track of people, etc. A couple bits of advice: if you are an organization or website, you're better off setting up a group page or fan page. I'd also be slightly wary of reaching out to people to be 'friends' when you don't know them. Someone recently asked me 4 times to be their friend (they had a business that was a direct competitor to a business whose group I'd joined), and after declining the friendship three times in less than a week, I ended up reporting them to FB on the 4th friend request. FB is pretty rigid about only having individual pages for individuals. If they find an individual page that's not just someone's personal page, they'll delete it, that person will lose the content on it and that email address will never be able to be used again on FB... We ultimately decided it was best just to follow their rules and use the group/fan page functionality for our little inet biz.
