Does anyone have any good tips on how to decide on an affiliate product?

Yes, chose something you are interested in. It is easy to write about things you like. It can be time consuming if you have to study something you know nothing about just to write about it. Search for your niche, its there you just need to find it.

Well you choose according to a number of factors

1. What does the merchant account look like? Choose one that is professional and does not have a newsletter opt in form
2.What do their returns look like. If they have high returns don't use them. You do not want to put in all that hard work for nothing

There are some affiliate tool that you can use if you want to determine what products are hot and new, what product trends are declining and what products are worth promoting. Whatever you choose, I agree as well with rest that it is best to choose something you are interested in as it is easy to promote the product.

I don't really have any hobbies except for affiliate marking lol so I choose based on the program it's self like how much it paid, what was the gravity to the site, how much competition there is,etc. i also check it on a couple sites like alexa and google trends Quantcast is pretty cool to

Here are my tips to decide:

1. Does it have a catchy headline that grabs your attention right away
2. What is the gravity? If its above 100, I dont really bother, and if its below 70 I dont usually bother either unless the vendor says it converts high and am impressed with the sales letter.
3. I usually only promote a product if I know it has high conversions.
4. I make sure they have a good affiliate section with banners and other tools.
