Default How much to charge for a 500-word article?

For freelance writers, how much do you charge for a 500-word article?
Do you charge per word or do you give a fix price?

That's very generous Robert. Most people want to pay $1 per 500 word piece.

Wow, $1 per article??? I'd NEVER work for that. I generally charge per word, and it comes out to about $35-$45 per 500 word article. I put a lot of time and effort into my writing, and refuse to be underpaid. If someone truly wants quality work, they'll pay for it.

Hey Reba, I was shocked myself. The problem actually lies in so many writers looking for work online and not enough clients. Everybody underbids each other to get the work and then nobody makes anything. I was doing some rewrites for $1 a piece as there were 500 of them to do. It gets old after awhile when the first article is so trashed up you have to start from scratch. Think I'll go back to the lottery.

$1??? how could anyone be expected to write 500 words for only a dollar? I could type 500 words up and maybe put them in sentences for a dollar, but if you want any type of professional writing surly you will have to pay more that one dollar.

One dollar for 500 words? That is beyond insane. I can't even imagine that. I pay anywhere from 10 - 13 dollars for a 350 word article, so for 500 probably about 15 or 16. You have to pay a little more for quality, otherwise why even do it?

All the best

I pay my writer $15 for a 500 word article. He is well worth it and i feel like that is a steal for his work.

As a freelance writer for more than 20 years now, I am amazed how little people are willing to be paid for writing these days. The Internet has changed the whole game.

I would never sell a 500 word article for $15. Right now, I am writing a series of 500-word "consulting tips" for a client's Web site -- I am charging $50 each. He wants at least 30 of them, so $50 x 30 = $1,500. I got them all done in two days. So that's $750 per day.

If you are a writer, don't sell your work cheap.
