I do my freelance work through Elance.com and what I have found to be profitable is transcribing audio files if you're a fast typer.

There are a lot of different types of freelance jobs on odesk.com, however it sounds like you're looking for a get-rich-quick type of thing. Honest, legitimate freelance work is just like any other kind of work. You have to actually pay your dues and work hard to make good money. Sorry.

Default freelance opportunities

I found the same thing when I was trying to work on web design. I found some other freelance opportunities though that can make a lot more.

there are tons of freelancing jobs available, in fact there are some places, where there are 1 new job every minute, and there is no need of any bidding as well.

you should search well.

Thanks to everyone in this thread. I'm been considering freelancing, but wasn't sure where to start. I now have some ideas.

Look for local writing jobs in your community. That's how I started. One of my first clients was a local small-town hospital. I wrote their newsletter for them. Six pages -- I earned $1,500 per issue. Did it every three months.

I wrote a history for a local chruch -- was paid $3,000.

I write business plans for start-up businesses -- good money.

Write brochure copy for local businesses or nonprofit groups.

Network within your local community. Get some business cards, hand them out. Buy small classified ads in your local paper advertising yourself as a writer for hire.

AND SO ON!
