I think I am getting the picture we will see.

Ok Juliom,

It is pretty easy to connect with people. Start out by introducing yourself, no business attachments. Just share you interests, what you do, kids, etc. Ask the other person what they do and listen. Most people love to talk about themselves. Let them. I like to listen because I am somewhat shy and not good at talking to people I just met. But, I am a very good listener and most people appreciate that.

By doing this, you are showing that you care more about the other person than you do yourself. People appreciate this and most will respond kindly to this.

This is very true. I heard once that the more you listen to someone, the more they will trust you.

We do a color's training with my group and it is really neat. You get to learn all about the 4 different personality types. But the neat thing is you learn within a few seconds on the phone what the type of personality the person you are talking to has. Then once you know their color you will know how they like to be talked to.

If anyone is interested in listening the the recorded colors training, just sent me an e-mail and I'll be happy to send you the link. It really helped me a lot.

I do agree. You do want people to come to you to inquire about your product and service. Unless you are good at selling and presenting you product or service, cold calling is not something you should do. But, in saying this, I think cold calling is a good way to develop your communication skills. Why? Because selling is such an important skill to possess for a business owner. If you don't want to do the cold calling, another way to develop your sells skills is to make presentations. You can start out small and make you presentation to a small group, but as your skill and confidence grows, you can make presentations to an even larger group. I am in the process of preparing for this.

I don't like cold calling either which is way I no longer do that, I buy leads specific to my industry for my primary business. It is much easier to call leads who are looking for information on a specific business. After receiving information if they learn that this business is not for them I move on 8 out of 10 do not opt out of receiving emails for the time being I can still send them updates on our new monthly product. thanks

P.S. It is easier talking to prospects this way at least for me it is I don't get nervous any more I call answer there questions if they are ready to get started fine if not next some will some won't.

I have been cold calling for years. It just seems like every business i get into requires it. I'm pretty good at it even though it's not my favorite thing to do. I've made some excellent contacts through cold calling. It's all about catching people at the right time. It is a numbers game. The most important thing you have to remember is not to take it personal. I know that's easier said than done, but the faster you realize that, the better off you'll be. For every 10 no's there is a yes! Once you start making some good contacts, then it's all about referrals. Like the saying goes...."It's not about WHAT you know, it's WHO you know". Some people have built their entire careers around just a few good clients.

Good luck, and just remember to SMILE AND DIAL!

1 year ago I would have totally agreed with you, DHL. This used to be me. I was convinced by my up-line that "investing" in leads was a good thing. It's not. Why? Because MLM is not about numbers. It's not a numbers game. It's about real people who are looking for help.

Over a 4 year period I spent over $30 Thousand Dollars buying leads. Yes I signed up lots of people but after 4 years I had only 5 active people. Why? Because buying leads isn't duplicatable. You need a proven duplicatable system for success.

Most people are not like you and I. Most people hate rejection. For them, the phone weighs a ton. It simply isn't duplicatable. For those people, they feel like a failure. It just isn't fun for them. So what happens, they end up quitting and feeling like something is wrong with them. It isn't their fault. We all have different personalities and calling leads takes a certain kind of personality.

If you are happy, smiling and dialing that's great. But for me, I wanted to do what I love and have fun doing it.

You can read more about why buying leads doesn't work here.

Wendy,
I understand where you are coming from. I realize that cold calling isn't for everyone, however, i do have to disagree with them not working at all. I'm not only referring to MLM's, but there are tons of businesses out there that require cold calling. I have had good and bad experiences with it, and it's never easy. Cold calling doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with buying leads. Sometimes you can cold call without spending any money at all, if you are creative. One of my best friends and business partners i happen to have today, came from me cold calling his home one evening. The first thing his wife said to me was "Do you know i'm on the DO NOT CALL LIST"?????? I apologized, then without going into too much detail here, i said something to her about saving her money and got her attention. This is just one example, and most people do hang up, but sometimes it's worth going through all that when you have a great outcome like that. Again, MY personal experience, but my point being nobody should ever shut any doors. I wish everyone the best of luck HOWEVER they are able to get business!
