Medical Transcription as a career

I wonder how many people here have chose medical transcription as their full time career. I know that this is a very stressful job and requires a lot of patience and knowledge of medical terms. How do you cope up with the stress and is it best to work at home or in a job location?

I'm a MT student, coming from a medical background, it was fairly easy to tackle med words.

I came to Career Step cause I'm a mom and need to work at home.

you can visit my schools forum and you will get lots of answers from graduates.

Medical Transcription is the process of transcribing or converting recorded dictation of physicians or other healthcare professionals into written text. It deals with converting patientís reports and records dictated by doctors in to an electronic or paper format.

With medical transcription, you can make a difference in your life and your career graph can jump to a much high level. Starting as a transcriptionist, you can move on to becoming a senior transcriptionist, executive transcriptionist, quality analyst, proof reader, content editor, project leader etc.

I don't do medical transcription, but I do general transcription full-time for two online companies and have been doing this full-time, as a single parent, and paying all my bills for over three years now. I don't have to mess with training or medical terminology. The work I do is mainly one-on-one interviews about all kinds of things, or single speaker files, as well as focus groups. It has allowed me to be at home with my daughter, not deal with a boss and scheduled hours, and leave the rat-race behind, all PLUSES in my book!!

Yes Medical transcription is a stressfull job, but it offers the advantage of work from home and also is recession proof. Medical transcription industry is poised to grow rapidly for the next 20-30 years unlike other professions where there is saturation
