Each day I go through my inbox, I get plenty of offers of online business opportunities that will make me rich. Many of these solicitations use terms like "downline" "upline" and "matrix" - a dead giveaway that they are based on an MLM model; Multi-Level Marketing.

Is MLM a viable means of online business or are they generally just a scam?

I have the same problem like what you facing . I should say most of them are scam .
And most of them does no live long . How many of these company survive till today ? We can count in ten fingers .

I think the key to succeeding in an opportunity is to be with a good group of people. I'm in a program now similar to one that has been online for 2 years now. Also, my group has committed themselves to reinvest back into the business when they cycle out.

MLM in and of itself is a viable legitimate business model. However just as any other situation there are those companies that operated with less than integrity. You can run into the same situation with lets say a brick and mortar electronics store, where the products are shoddy and the store is here one day and gone the next with your money.

Any business that says you can get rich overnight without working I feel is bogus whether its a franchise, MLM, or a Mom and Pop store. You must do your research and show due diligence.

The internet is the 21st Century way of doing business, and its the perfect venue for MLM and for the average everyday person who wants to have a legitmate business but does not have $10,000 to put down as an initial investment.

Building relationships is the key. Money will always come after the relationships are built. No relationship, no long term money making.

I agree with you Purple Cowboy. I was informed that when involved in MLM's, it is a numbers game, but in the internet marketing arena, it is about relationships. Relationships are key to having an online business.

I'd like to share my observations.

I've worked with 3 network marketing companies over the years and they are all still in business and highly respected in this industry. That's the KEY. Network marketing is a 100% legitimate, personally rewarding, and highly profitable business, but......you must do your homework and choose a high quality company with staying power.

The second thing to remember is that a legitimate network marketing business will take time to build just like any other business would. If you choose your company wisely and learn what to do to become successful from those you have developed a relationship with in your team....the only way you will fail is if you quit.

Lastly, network marketing is one of the few opportunities available for the average person to create residual income - money that continues to flow into your life even when you're actively working.

And that, my friends, is the way to live!

I totally agree Lise. Unfortunately, many people don't quite understand this. They become frustrated early and quit before they have actually learned everything to me. So many people do have unrealistic views about a work at home business. They think if I am not making a lot of money within 3, 6, or 9 months, they quit.

Instead, don't base your business on how much money you are making. Base you business on your actions. What are you doing to help your business to grow? Are you doing something for your business everyday or at lease 5 to 6 days a week? If you treat your business like it is a hobby, and not like it is a business, you will not succeed.

For me working my MLM company is hard because I work it part time while working full time. I give 10-15 hours a week. Without any financial help to fall back on, starting a MLM can be risky but I believe rewarding if you believe in it, are good with people and get the right kind of exposure.

I also find my email with loads of opportunities like this. I haven't really tried MLM and I don't think I ever will. The sites look like scams to me with those pictures of people earning well on this and a testimonial filled website. I just don't trust the way their sites look.
