I have always assumed they are all scams or are very difficult to earn good money with. I always assume that you have to be a really good salesperson.

You do, a good salesperson, a con artist, and an actor have a lot in common. You have got to play the part in order to be believable.

One can learn a lot from an MLM. If anything there are some that can teach you a lot about running a business. This is where I got my feet wet. I spent way too much; that was my big mistake. But, I have gotten much better.

Great discussion, I have been in network marketing for year with my first company I failed because I was not ready I did not know what network marketing was really about, IMO many don't so they fail. Many try to blame it on there sponsor, upline, the company everything but something 'they' may have done or not done.

It's easier to say well network marketing is a scam or its not a real business or what ever now it maybe the company, it may be the sponsor but it may also be that 'we' are not prefect its ok to say you know I made a mistake here I need help or I don't know how this network marketing really works.

I have learned a great deal since that first company, I have read a few books that have also helped me as well. This is a great industry, it about 'people' first and solving their problems first not ours. I read a book by Robert Kiyosaki the author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad he work a book about network marketing, excellent book. He writes that in order to be in network marketing you have to want to help other people first before you help yourself.

good luck

Michelle

The problem with MLM's i think is the way people ( sponsors ) market them. Too many people hype and promise easy riches. Its work and its sales. Even recommendations in my mind are still sort of sales. If you have the committment and a good sponsor with good marketing tactics you will do well. ( assuming you have done your due dilligence before joining a company )

Hi Michelle,
You are correct on all accounts you made in your post. Most people, who are new to starting a business, will fail because of lack of knowledge about managing a business. I think those who have skills in sells will probably do better than most but even having sales skills is not a guarantee because of all of the other aspects of having a business.

I too am a big fan of Robert Kiyosaki. I like how he discusses business in terms that a beginner can understand. I am that beginner.

ErnieB, the reason people hype about the promise of easy riches is because they believe that this is what will interest most people. Thus, bring people into their business. They don't realize that you such marketing methods will not keep people in the business. Inevitably, many of the people they bring in will quit because their needs are not being met. This is discussed in Michelle's post.

You can't really blame them. This is what they are taught. Many people starting a business were taught incorrectly on how to build a business.

In essence, building a business is about building relationships with others. People will only stay around when they feel that their needs are being met. As stated by Michelle, your business is not about you, but about those you serve, which are your customers and your business associates. This is what business owners should always keep in mind.

Thank you Wendy. I also believe that I will find success. I also realize that success is process. You just have to be patient. It will happen when you are ready for it; meaning, you have attained the proper business skills and experience.

Hello everyone...

I believe I'm trying an MLM/pyramid. I'm a Virtual Assistant and a client of mine is funding her Pet Sitting Business completely off of income she's made from it. One of her clients has made quite a bit off of it.

I've only just started 3 months ago and already got my first check. It was small, but its more than I've made with anything else.... I think I'm going to stick it out, see where it goes from here. (and before you say it -- yes, my client is being honest. When I started working for her she couldn't afford much of my time, but lately she's been giving TONS of projects based on the income she's gotten, she can afford it now)

On the other side, I do know that the majority are scams, so please be careful. If you're curious, only try those with money back guarantees to be safe.

I actually, have a friend that is making BANK on MLM's....thorugh Affiliate marketing, Google adsense, etc etc

YOU CAN do this, but yo uhave to WORK at it....you get OUT Of it what you put INTO it. That's pretty much it.

You just have to do your Due Diligence that's all, when researching ventures.

Basically its also about driving as much traffic as you can to your website.
