Work2bfree, it was actually a fundraiser for my church. My friend has been into AVON for years and has made good money from them, including trips to Paris and Rome and Australia. She was able to hook up the fundraiser. She gave out the books to us and we took them to our jobs. I had a taste of it and it was just too much for me. Chasing after people for the money, adding up the totals and the tax etc. She made it easer because she called and sent in all the orders. I didn't ahve to handle the inventory except to deliver it to the job. She did the ordering and accepting the delivery and dividing up and packaging the merchandise etc. I just don't have that kind of patience.
That's why I chose the travel industry. No deliveries, no ordering, and no handling of cash!
But for those who don't mind all of that, AVON is good. I did no work at all to sell the product. It sold itself.

Maybe you can try to solve this problem by doing a web that your wife can sell their item in the internet. This way you can monitize your wife.

I have a friend who is involved in Mary Kay. She is doing very well just by talking to people. She has sold her products to many of the coworkers. She has a web site but much of her profits are coming from word of mouth. I keep trying to teach her the ways she can use the internet to market her products, but she seems reluctant. It could be her perception of the internet and her lack of confidence in her technical skills. I keep telling her it doesn't take much technical skills to post to forums.

GailTravel, your friend seems to be doing very well. What is she doing to market her business?

I have been selling avon for five years I am not making any real money either I do enjoy it and have over 25 customers in all. As mentioned your wife really won't have to do much on getting customers just letting people know you sell it and handing them a book is all I do. When new people come to our department I introduce myself and hand out a book thats it.

You will make money with avon if you are in leadership, from what I understand. Like anything else you will need to build a team in order to be in a position to earn residual income. That is where the real money is made. By the end of the summer avon will be a memory I have moved on to something bigger and better.

My Mum use dto do it and asked her sisters if they wanted anythig. She use dto spend far more than her commission on items for herself and I sometimes thought her sisters bought more than they needed to because they were helping her out. I am not sure it is a good idea unless youknow that she has a big group of friends / family who wil buy form her.

I agree with the spending over commission receive I have done that as well. I stopped looking at the new catalog so I would not be tempted to buy. Its a great well to get started with something.

I think if those in Avon or Mary Kay provided training in how to market your business, more people would probably be more successful. Once new people to the business see the success of others, maybe more might be willing to join.

The real money comes through recruiting. One can recruit from their customer base. Often customers who are receiving good customer relations combined with a good product experience, will be more likely to join the business. But, you must be willing to work with those you bring into the business.

I am working my business part-time, but I do set aside time, about an hour during the week, to train the members in my group. This will not only help to build relationships with your members in your downline, but will instill within them a great appreciation. It shows that you care and that they are of value to you. The end result is that these individuals will more likely be willing to stay in the business. Many people don't succeed in home businesses because new members end up leaving.

Whether or not you believe in the products, company, etc - you should support your wife. She's probaly buying the stuff anyways. You never know till you try.

I say give her your support, she may suprise you.

Sorry Seashell, I am not married. If I were, I would marry a man because I am a woman. I have short hair because I run every day. I got tired of blowdrying and hot curling my hair every day, so I cut it off. My boyfriend likes it, but more importantly so do I.

Now, if my husband were marketing Mary Kay or Avon products, you are right, I should support him and I would. But, Kirk does not really think much of work at home businesses. He is a CFO of a company involved in Hedge Funds. But he does support me in my home-based business. He had better. He really does not have a choice.
