I don't know a lot about Avon. Only that I used to use the skin so soft as a teenager and liked it alot.

When ever I am mentoring someone who is researching a company I send them this article I wrote about what to look for before you sign up. (I wish I had this info when I first got started.

Maybe it will help...

Before you join any MLM Read this

Things to think about….

1. Do a Google search on the company. Do you see any negative?

2. Who are the owners of the company?

3. Read the Policy’s and Procedures. (By the way, most people don't do this) How many pages is it? Statistically if it is only a few pages, then it is a company with a low overhead which mean more money in the distributor’s pocket. If it is many pages and you need a lawyer to read it, run! You probably have a company who is looking out for the company’s best interests rather than yours.

4.Look for a company that has been around over 2 years. (This gives it time to go through the growing pains)

5.Products?-Ask yourself this…”Would I buy this product if there wasn’t a business opportunity attached?” If the answer is no the run in the other direction.

6.Will people buy the product at retail?

7.Also, do an EBay search for the products. If there are pages and pages of the company products being sold on e-bay then there is a good chance people in the company have a hard time selling the products.

8 What is the compensation plan?A good plan is a plan that pays the most for the least amount of people.

9 Is there a Duplicatable System in Place? People do not duplicate, systems do. Be sure there is a system in place.

I know that MLM and other network marketing companies have gotten bad press in the past years, but the reality of it is companies like these are here to stay and here are two reasons why.

First, 70,000 people per week are looking for a home-based business. MLM's and other network marketing companies are just such companies.

The other reason is that MLM's and other types of network marketing businesses have created more millionaires than in any other industry.

I 100% agree. Not only is MLM here to stay but I believe it is the best way to make income from home.

With that said, keep in mind there are different kind of plans out there. There is the aussie two up, the stair step breakaway, Matrix etc. Each plan has different benefits. Before signing up you should do your homework. Be a critical thinker and pick the right business for you. If you are going to be with a company for years than do your homework.

I say this because years ago I was naive and jumped into the first business I found. I learned from that mistake. Now I'm with the right company and wish I found it years ago. However, I know there is a reason for everything. I am blessed and learned so much from that experience. I am now a successful coach and mentor because of my past failure.

I read recently in one of Robert Kiyosaki's books that most times people will fail their first business. This is because most people new to owning a business are learning. Mistakes and failures happen to most, but if they don't give up and learn from the experience, they will do better in the next business opportunity. This is what I did. I failed my first business, but I did not give up. I moved on and joined a business that I am very happy with and I am doing well in it.

Thank you very much Wendy. I think you deserve happiness too.

It is nice to see another face on the boards besides my boring mug.

As far as the training provided by Avon, in addition to monthly sales meetings and live trainings (which are all optional for those who want them), Avon also offers over 40 different online training courses that are free to representatives. These deal with everything from makeup application, to money handling, to marketing and advertisment. Suze Orman handles the training for money management and wise investing. Avon is not what it once was, which is why most reps who actually put honest effort into it make money. I have been selling for two years and have been able to quit my full time job and be home with my children because of the amount of money I make from Avon. As with any job, if you spend more money that you make you will still be broke. If you work at Walmart and earn $500 a week and spend $600 a week, you will still be in the hole, it's no different. That part is called being mature and not spending money that you can not afford to spend. For people looking to make decent money, Avon (or Mary Kay or Pampered Chef) are viable options, you just have to work them, nothing will come from nothing. Yes there are those who bomb at Avon, but there are also those who become millionaires. Most of us are just comfortably in the middle.

Good for you goldnfox. I am always glad to hear of others success stories. I have a friend who does Mary Kay. She started last year. She is doing fairly well. She is making quite a few sells with some of my coworkers and others. Her recruiting is coming a little bit slower. I think she said that she had 3 people, but I am sure if she continues to do what she is doing, she will do well. The Mary Kay business fits her perfectly. She is very good with makeup and by the sound of it does well with her presentations to others.

Her husband has not been very supportive, but she does not mind this. She says that she is sticking to it and does not care what the hubby says. I just laugh because I know she is telling the truth. I have seen this woman get angry. Watch out...

Maybe we should name this the girl power thread. I love being in a group with such dynamic women. I wish you all the best.

That sounds great Wendy. I am glad to see more women participating in this forum. For a while it seemed as if it was just me and GailTravel.
