Animals are pleasant to have around. Dogs require a lot more responsibility. I complain about having to take Sugar out all the time because I am so busy and have little time. My cats don't require as much time. In fact, they require very little. But, I don't think I could do without my dog or my cats. Sugar especially was helpful to me during the difficult times because I could interact with her.

SweetestMiracle, sorry about your back. I used to have problems with my back about 7 or 8 years ago. At that time, I was seeing a chiropractor 2 times a week, every week. I don't know why the chiropractor never told me that my problem was my weight.

When I lost 50 pounds, I discovered that my back problems went away. Not wanting to experience that pain is one of the reasons why I have been able to keep the weight off. There were days when for a week, I could not get out of bed. When this happened, I was usually on pain killers and muscle relaxers. My back would go out on me twice a year. Luckily my job was very understanding.

Default Hi

Geez Grady that would be horrible. I do not know of anyone who is allerigic to animals. Lucky, I guess I love baby animals they are sooo cute. My grandparents did not have cats while I was groein up. The only cats that I associated with were the cats/kittens on my aunts dairy farm. Wild little boogs they were.

Work2bfree- I had major back surgery almost 2 years ago and am still fighting the pain. I am not one to take pain meds unless it becomes to intense. I am however glad that I had surgery because it not, I would not have use of my left leg. Now I do, but still have weakness in the leg (but useable) and have numbness in some areas of the leg. Nerve damage I guess. I am just thankful that the pain is not like what it was before surgery. I just have major limitations that kills me when I want to go and be active. UGHHH!!

Take care

Hi SweetestMiracle,
It is good that the surgery helped for you; that it brought you some relief. I work with a lady who is having significant neck and back problems stemming from a car accident she had some years ago.

She goes to a therapist and chiropractor often. She can barely turn her neck. I think at one point she said that her doctor recommended surgery for her, but for some reason, she said no. So, she continues to go to her doctors often, but the results don't even last a week. I feel her pain because I remember the days I suffered from those back pains. Extremely painful...

Default Hi

I know we are totally off topic here, but has your friend tried acupuncture? I was so amazed with the results. I went and had this procedure done 4 months after surgery. I had treatment during spring break, and after 4 sessions I was doing my spring cleaning. I kid you not. They say they can decrease your pain up to 80%, and boy howdy did she. I would like to start it again but my insurance has changed and it will cost more out of pocket, which I can't afford at the moment. Needles sound scary, but it is so different when you have it done. Have her check into this, it may help her.

Tell you friend I wish her well and give acupuncture a try.

Take care work2bfree

You can tell by my bio, that I am the proud mommy to two beautiful German Shepherds. I am formalizing my goal to sell everything I own, buy an rv pack up the dogs and see the country. I love all animals, but I'm partial to dogs. I've had Toby since he was 8 weeks old and he is smarter than I am.

Hi

I have 3 dogs, 4 cats, and a household full of love for them all. I do not think of them as pets as much as I think of them as my children. While growing up I had a dog and cat and as the years progressed I have diversified my pet consumption and at one time I had 13 ferrets! What wonderful pets they were and oh so much work but it was all worth it. To clean cages each day became very tiresome but again so worth it. They would have free reign of the house when I was at home and they were so good about going to their litter box I had no problem with any mess or smell. Each one responded to their name, how smart is that. They get into everything and steal what they find appropriate to hide or to sleep with whatever the case they are not felons whats yours is theirs and whats theirs is theirs also. I did not realize ferrets do not last but 5 to 10 years, I assume because they are so hyper. Mine lasted 15 plus years. It was heart break when they started leaving me one by one and yes hard on them as well because of the adrenal disease they contract. I feel very fortunate to have had the experience I had with them. Some were rescue ferrets I got because of the abuse they had endured in the past. They were scared when I got them but through love and nurturing they came around to trust once again. The only thing I can say is: People, parents do not get a ferret for your children, this is why a lot of them are lost or uncared for and they do need a lot of interaction, care, love, and respect. Children lose interest fast. Anyway on a lighter note all animals are very intelligent, forgiving, nurturing, lending us their unconditonal love. My Emma, Molly, Max, Griffon, Annie, Ellie, Valentine I love you all so much and in remembrance to all who have passed on.

Thank you all for sharing. I find the subject of pets and animals so interesting. I love my pets. I don't know what I would do without my pets. I have a 14 year old cat, a 4 year old cat and my chihuahua is 3. She is the baby and the smallest animal of the three. My cats are not too happy because Sugar is too hyper. Is there ever a chihuahua that does not bounce off walls? Do they mellow out as they get older? I certainly hope so?

Hi,

I have a dog that i have had since he was 6 weeks old a labrador, i love him to bits but i feel i am a bit hard on him sometimes as he is still very much like a puppy even though he is nealy two!

I had a gorgeous 16hh chestnut horse as well called summer who was my pride and joy, she was young too, she was 4 years old but after only having her for a year i had to sell her to my best friend because i had an unexpected pregnancy and struggled to look after a horse and a baby!

It was very sad for me but luckly because my friend had her i still get to visit and hopefully when my daughter is older i can have another horse and maybe a pony for her!
In the mean time i will concentrate on my lovely dog frankie who is very caring and loyal to all of us.
