Default What are you doing about the Gas Prices?

It seems that gas prices are continuing to rise. This has also impacted other areas of the economy, like food, utilities, and even some businesses such as the car industry.

I am fortunate on one hand, I don't drive much. My job is only 5 to 8 minutes away from my home and I the areas in which I run errands are pretty close, so I don't spend a lot on gas. I usually fill up on gas every two weeks. But, I know that the gas prices have impacted many people when it comes to driving. I have seen a number of my coworkers change their driving habits and even go back to driving smaller cars. One of my coworkers purchased a scooter to get to and from work.

What kinds of changes, if any, have you implemented as a means to save? I am curious. I have seen people start riding bikes, which I don't think is such a bad thing. At least they will be getting more exercise. How about you? Are you making any changes in you lifestyle to save money?

I usually don't do much driving on the weekend. The only driving I do is to and from work and to run my errands. The rest of the time, I am at home. This probably saves me the wear and tear on my car too.

Gas in my car lasts me almost 2 weeks, sometimes longer. This is because a while back, while living in Atlanta Georgia, I used to spend close to $400 a month just driving to and from work I had a Ford Expedition then.

I eventually swapped my car for a Ford Focus. Not fancy and I really do not care for the car, but she gets me where I need to go, saves on gas, and is very low maintenance.

Wow, and I was crying last week when I filled up on my car and it cost me almost $40.00. I could not believe that a car that I purchased about 3 years ago and used to cost me $12.00 - $15.00 to fill up, now is costing me almost $40.00. So I am boo hooing too, but I feel for you Elljay.

I know I was shocked when I paid nearly $50 to fill 7/8 of my tank. Then I was surprised when last week I paid under $40 to fill 3/4 of my tank.

Man, I remember being able to fill up this car for around $20. One of my biggest frustrations with the gas companies in the last three years was they basically used Katrina and Rita as an excuse to raise prices. They said it was "to compete" and because of the extensive damage. So, I grumbled, but willingly handed over the money. I remember becoming very angry just 3 or 4 months later when reports began coming out about them making 25% profits.

Hey, I understand the need to raise prices for inflation and costs. But just think for a minute. If any other industry doubled the price of their product, then were claiming record 25% profits, there'd be investigations and outrage of all kinds mounted against the industry!

Okay... That's my rant on the subject... I'm building my business so I don't have to "commute" to work as much, and therefore don't need to spend as much on gas! (If only I lived close enough to my "day" job to ride a bike to work!)

Yes, I was watching the business news online from cnn.com and they said that many of the oil companies; such as, Exxon, BP, Shell, made record profits of over 13 billion. This is up over 30% from last year.

These oil companies are making a lot of money at our expense and they wonder why so many people dislike them. Many of them come across as being very greedy. I know most business are concerned about their bottom line, but if no one has any money to spend for gas or can't afford to purchase gas for their cars, where are they going to go?
