Default Paypal Scam

I was almost scammed by someone pretending to be representing Paypal. They sent me an e-mail which looked exactly like one you would receive from Paypal. In it they said to click on a link to update my account information. The site I was directed to looked exactly like the Paypal site. However, along with my banking info they also wanted me to update my credit card information.Since I do not have a credit card I became suspicous.I contacted Paypal and sure enough they confirmed that it was a scam and asked me to send them a copy of the e-mail.

Apparently, according to Paypal, this sort of thing happens all the time.So if you're dealing with them be careful of this sort of thing.

Yes, Arlene. I got the same thing. Fortunately, when I clicked on the link, my browser immediately informed me that the link was not a valid site. So, I did not go any further.

I have also been receiving some emails about my Bank of America credit card. Now, I knew something was strange. The email had Bank of Americas logo and everything looked legit. The only problem was that it said that someone tried to access my account a number of times online. I don't ever go into my bank of america account online. In fact, I don't bank with bank of america. The date was also wrong. It said that I needed to contact before January of 2008. Well, this told me that things were definitely strange.

I called Bank of America and let them know. They told me to forward them the link and they would investigate. I did.

There are a lot of scam online. You have to be really careful. I am really overly cautious. Be careful. If a site is asking for personal information, this should send a red flag to you. Don't do it.

Yes, I usually delete them and then call the company to inform them of what I see. Sometimes, they want to view them so I will forward them the link.

You must never log on into your paypal account from a link which is in email claiming to be from paypal. I always even if i am 100% that the email is genuine log on to the site by writing the address to the browser.

This is true Malina. I have received a number of emails about my paypal account that was not legit. I never click on the link.

There are emails about bank accounts that have false links in them. I received one from Bank of America. I called them to let them know about it. I also called Bank of America to inquire whether they had sent me the email.

Often, if there is a link that is requesting you to input your personal information or go to a website and enter your login information, then you can believe that the email is fake and someone or individuals are trying to gain access to your personal information.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME. I've received dozens of these fake emails claiming to be PayPal, Bank of America and especially eBay.

Malina hit it right on the nail, ALWAYS go back to the original website to login and check your messages through there. If you don't have any personal messages through the site then it's a good chance that email's a fluke.

Good luck and be safe.

Hotmail has these flagged as scams. I forget exactly how they labeel them, but if you use hotmail, you shouldn't have a problem with these scams.
