I attended a house foreclosure auction and was very saddened. The house was sold for 1/4 it's value and the family had been paying for it for 10 yrs. They just got caught up in the refinancing hype.

I was looking at the family's eyes as someone just bought their house for peanuts and was wondering, for those who buy such property, how do you keep from feeling a bit sad for the families?

Most do, or they are uncaring swine. But, you also have to realize that business is business.
