Foundation problems in Alabama
I invest in real estate in Alabama. I currently own 6 properties. Well, last week I found out that one of my properties has foundation problems. The foundation problems are due to the fact that one, the home is built on a slab, and two, because of the lack of rain and the heat, many of the homes that were built on a slab are having problems due to shifting in the foundation; so my property is not unusual. So, when I hear this, I am seeing '$" signs and freaking out. I looked online and found a service that will get your, for free, a number of companies to come out and take a look at your home and give you an estimate. Well, I have had two so far. The one with the best offer sounded the most reasonable to me. He offered to fix the areas where the problems is occuring as well as the crack for under $1000.00. I forgot to mention that these companies have been certified, criminal background checks have been made, etc. My reason for this choice is that many of the properties here in Alabama; especially those built on a slab, have some sort of foundation problem. Another reason is I don't live in this property and I don't intend to live in it. If I was going to move into the home and stay for a while, I probably would have the foundation fixed more thoroughly, but this home will more than likely be sold next year and replaced with 2 more. This is my first year in owning properties and I must say it has truly been a learning experience.
