When I first started selling on
eBay I read a book by Skip McGrath that said selling second hand books is very profitable on
eBay. The only book I've ever even been able to break even on was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows . . . and that was shortly after it was released. Otherwise, I've only lost on books. With them being so heavy they're expensive to ship. Plus it doesn't help that
eBay just made it to where you can't charge more than $4 for shipping and handling unless you do calculated shipping. I'd be amazed by anyone who can turn a profit selling books on
eBay. Like you mentioned, the prices have fallen farther and farther as time has progressed. A lot of books you can get just as cheap on
Amazon.com
I don't know what to tell you. It looks like an extremely hard market to me. Kudos to you for being in business with it for over 5 years.
