Thumbs up What if it is not a Scam?

I have been building affiliate based web sites for years and they provide a steady monthly income. Whenever someone has presented me with a work at home type program or MLM I find that most of them are scams. They are pyramid schemes designed to make the person on top money. Many make their money by selling video's, DVD's or Tapes to gullible people who join. Many more have monthly fees that never go away.

I stumbled across the MLM program that is not a scam and I am already making money. I have made banners for my sites but my sales have been by word of mouth. My problem is that most people who hear the word MLM immediately think Scam; I know I am the same way. If you find a great MLM program how do you promote it as a great thing so it does not sound like a scam?

Well if it's not a scam, provide some proof. I think that people may feel a bit better about MLM, if you had for example pictures of Checks or deposites you received, that's just a suggestion. Also building relationships, once people trust you, then they might start trusting what you have to offer or are involved in.

If it seems like the site is all hyped up, full of promises and just about making money, than to me this smells of a scam. If the site/opportunity is genuine, a real product, not too expensive, and can help provide an income but not guaranteeing one, it may be something you can believe. With anything you should do your research and you will either find others talking about how they got scammed by the company, or you will find many people telling their stories about the company, networking, and helping eachother.

MLM is different from pyramid scam. MLM can't guarantee you to earn big money within 1 - 2 months time. You will need at least 6 months or more to see some money coming in.

MLM is about building relationship with people. When you are truthful to them, and they believe you. You have succeed in building the relationship.

It sounds like you may be talking to the wrong kind of people. The average person is very happy working the rest of their life and earning an average income. You can't change those people. You need to talk to the right people. Those people are people who "get it" and are looking for an MLM or they are not getting results in their business and are looking for another way.

Great question. My answer may surprise you, but it is what I learned after failing for many years using the old school methods. What works ......is to NOT promote your business. Instead promote YOU! Build relationships with people and offer real help. Let them know you are there for them. This will attract people to you and they will want to get to know you better and they will come to you and ask you about your business.

Default Mlm Is Not A Scam ... Most Are Just Misled

Good point,

You are correct, most people feel MLM is a scam, and for good reason, they were probably hyped into making purchase and they never made a sale themselves and quit, so they blame MLM as a whole, not the person who misled them to make purchase.

MLM is a legitimate means of moving product, but don't think it is easy, or someone will do it for you or you will be disappointed too. MLM has gotten a bad rap because there are so many bad companies, but look at all the good ones before you make a blanket decision they are all the same.

It takes time to educate a prospect about MLM and the advantages verses the disadvantages. Yes, you have to choose MLM like you would any business, yet most don't take MLM seriously since it usually costs so little to get involved compared to any traditional business where you must invest thousands, if not hundreds of thousands.

MLM works great if you work it, after all, it is not NetNOwork Marketing, it is NetWORK Marketing. I have seen it all, and I research them all, and if you don't have a product that practically sells itself, the average person will never earn more than the burn trying. Why, simple, most people are not sales people, and if you cannot sell, you will not succeed in any real business.

Most companies these days hype about the money, or are me too products, the same old same old, so the first thing you have to do is choose a product that is hopefully exclusive, easy to demonstrate, and offers extreme value without the opportunity attached. If you start with this criteria, it would be more difficult to fail than succeed. Forget the compensation plans, these will bog you down if not set you up for failure if you think you will get rich overnight.

The best advice is to start with a low to no cost business opportunity, one that offers verifiable value, especially important in a deep recession like this one, and then make sure the product or service practically sells itself. Unless you are a seasoned salesperson, you should not waste your time on products or services requiring sales experience. As example, I only promote recession proof businesses for the past couple years, and while some of my businesses have been hit by recession, others have not, so this strategy is well proven, be selective, especially in these tough economic times.

We are in a period of high unemployment, uncertainty, nervousness, people have lost half the value of their 401K, stock market crash, housing collapse, banking collapse, and now credit card companies are ripping us off by raising interest rates and cutting credit lines, so more people will be looking at the home business industry, so this is great time to get started with MLM, or other home businesses, but choose wisely, don't fall for the get rich quick hype which is so typical in the industry over the past couple decades since internet has exploded.

Success to all,

Totally agree. This business model take time and commitment. It is NOT get rich quick. But if you build it right it will pay you long after you are gone.

You need to read the policy. Just like anything else you need to know how you will be getting paid. There are many different kinds of marketing plans out there. I have seen many people who get their check up to $5000 a month and then the next month drop to $500 because they were in a stair step break-a-way and got cut off from their down lines volume.

The other huge mistake that people make is in not reading the policies and procedures of the company. Did you know that most MLM's have a clause that says the company can terminate you without cause for any reason. You need to make sure there is no clause like this in your policy. I have seen many people loose their checks because of clauses like this.

The problem is that up lines get people so sucked up into the hype that they sign up and then read the policies often when it is too late.

A legitimate company will have the policies on the website or will give them to you before you sign up. If you ask for the policies and they tell you that they will come with your first order........Run!

Default Network Marketing Exposed

Good point Wendy,

If you check out all the current distributor law suits, you will see this has become a problem and many companies will dump the top producers when they are on last legs or seeing declining profits which is driven by recession.

You must read the terms of agreement for sure, take your business seriously, and most don't when it comes to MLM. Why, because there is so little investment many don't take it seriously.

Success to all,

99% of home based businesses are NOT SCAMS. People though that are failures and might have been sold on hype though scream scam for no reason. Just because you pay money to join a business does not mean your going to have success, far from it.
